Clinician: Dave Ness

David Ness, B.M. Northern Illinois University; M.M. Northwestern University, is a freelance musician in the Chicago area. Currently, Dave is the guitar instructor and jazz ensemble director at Carthage College. His duties at Carthage also include teaching popular music in America, jazz improvisation, jazz history and directing the guitar ensemble. In the past, he has taught jazz courses at Northwestern University and was the guitar instructor at Judson College. Dave is a sought-after clinician, having taught and presented clinics at many schools in the Illinois and Wisconsin area.  Dave is featured on recordings on Southport Records and has arranged music for Danilo Perez, pianist; Shirley King, blues singer and daughter of B.B. King; and Judy Roberts, pianist and vocalist. One of his arrangements can be heard on Shirley King's album "Daughter of the Blues." His arrangements have also included three big band arrangements for Tom Tallman's jazz ensemble at the College of DuPage.  His article on guitarist Freddie Green can be found in the November 1999 edition of the International Association of Jazz Educators Journal. He regularly can be found performing in the Chicago area in classical, latin, and jazz groups. He can be contacted at: dness@carthage.edu
